Overview

As a Full Stack Developer and web designer, I was contracted by Louise to create her portfolio. The goal was to design the website to showcase her work and provide a platform for potential clients to view her portfolio and contact her for collaborations. Leveraging my skills in both design and development, I utilized Figma for the design phase and Next.js with Chakra UI for the frontend development. Additionally, I implemented Strapi as the backend CMS to manage content efficiently.

Design Process

  • Figma: Used Figma to design the user interface and layout of the portfolio website. This involved creating wireframes, mockups, and high-fidelity designs to visualize the overall look and feel.
  • User-Centered Design: Ensured the design was intuitive and user-friendly, focusing on effective navigation and showcasing my work and skills effectively.

Development Process

  • Frontend Development: Implemented the frontend using Next.js, a React framework, to achieve server-side rendering and optimize performance. Utilized Chakra UI for styling, allowing for rapid development and customization.

  • Backend Integration: Integrated Strapi as the backend CMS to manage content such as project data and contact information. Utilized GraphQL for efficient data querying.

  • Responsive Design: Ensured the portfolio website was responsive and optimized for various devices and screen sizes to provide a seamless user experience.

  • Deployment: Deployed the website to heroku an hosting platform to make it accessible to users online.

Outcome

Louise Vandervorst’s portfolio website showcases her work, projects, and expertise to potential clients and employers. The combination of Figma, Next.js, Chakra UI, and Strapi resulted in a visually appealing, user-friendly, and efficient website that accurately reflects Louise’s professional profile and capabilities.

Conclusion

Creating Louise’s portfolio website was a rewarding experience that allowed her to demonstrate her work. The project highlighted the importance of effective collaboration between design and development and the value of utilizing the right tools and technologies to achieve the desired outcome.
